ABOUT ME
I am a 26 year old freelance artist and illustrator from Walton, KY. I grew up an only child with a busy imagination and a rich inner life. While creative expression in one form or another has always been a prominent fixture in my life, it wasn’t until I had graduated college and found I needed direction that I turned to a career in art. I have BA’s in French and Linguistics from the University of Kentucky, which served me well in 2023 when I applied to and was accepted as an emerging artist for a residency program in Orquevaux, a small French village. I consider this a turning point in my artistic journey, which prompted me to shift my focus to making art full time. I work both traditionally and digitally, primarily focused on acrylic painting and children’s book illustrations.
I consider my painting practice to be autobiographical with a layer of abstraction. Through the infusion of surreal elements, expressionist sensibilities, and subjects removed from context, I present my internal experience from an aesthetic distance. The result is work that is accessible but underlaid with subtle narrative that explores concepts such as identity & perception, isolation & solitude, and chaos & order. My paintings err on the side of maximalist, with sometimes painstaking execution of motifs and attention to detail. I value versatility and find inspiration in the serendipitous—I have yet to find any desire to settle into a niche of subject matter or stylistic approach. I create compositions that aim to evoke reverie and sentimentality, quiet, dreamlike atmospheres that invite the viewer to pause and wander the canvas. Feel free to explore.
